You’ve probably heard of the term “Test and Tag” but just to be sure that all our customers understand the importance of this procedure, and how it can prevent unnecessary and unfortunate accidents from taking place, we thought it would be a good idea to focus this latest blog on the subject.
So what exactly are Test and Tag?
We live in a world where we are heavily reliant on electrical appliances to make our lives easier and in some cases, safer, as well as to inform and entertain us. Unfortunately without due care being paid to the safety of such appliances and devices accidents can and do happen, and in many cases, these could have been avoided had those products been tested and tagged.
Only licensed electrical technicians can carry out test and tag which involves visually inspecting electrical products as well as carrying out electrical tests on in-service equipment to prevent injury to anyone. Equipment includes portable appliances as well as fixed equipment, depending on the manner in which it is connected to a source of electricity.
What a Test and Tag Program consists of:
- A visual inspection to check for any obvious problems
- A series of electrical tests to ensure the item is safe
- Tagging of equipment to show users that it has been passed as safe in compliance with AS/NZS 3760:2010 together with the date on when the item should be tested again
- Provision of a Log Book and Detailed Asset Register
